BIO
Slava Vorontsov (Viacheslav Vladislavovitch Vorontsov, b. 1987, Tazovsky, USSR) is a contemporary painter based in Paris. He is the great-grandson of the realist painter Vasily Vereshchagin.
He began his artistic education at an art school before exploring street art, graffiti, tattooing and clothing design. He also developed a musical practice, releasing fifteen solo albums and directing music videos.
Forced to leave Russia, he moved to France in 2023, where he has since focused primarily on painting. In 2025, he graduated from the Hérodote Programme at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. His practice developed in Paris within the Atelier des Artistes en Exil.
ARTISTIC PRACTICE
Slava Vorontsov develops an expressionist painting practice situated between abstraction and figuration. His work explores memory, trauma, exile, war, displacement and the transformation of human experience.
His painting is based on gesture, materiality and action painting. He works primarily with acrylic, spray paint, ink, oil sticks and pastels, combining spontaneity with control. His research is informed by anthropology, philosophy, mythology and religious traditions.
For Vorontsov, painting is a space of transformation in which individual and collective experiences are displaced, fragmented and recomposed into visual forms.
